The Chu family bought their home in Brentwood, Calif., and remodeled it in 2021. The Chus shared their love for their modern farmhouse in an email:
“We were drawn to the house the moment we set eyes on it. We loved the unique appeal of the house as it looked different from other houses in the neighborhood, but it’s not an eyesore. It is a monotonous modern farmhouse in brown color that is quite different but still fits in.
While the house offered plenty of space for our family of five to grow, we wanted it to be even more functional and elevated. Our designer, Bre Hance of InHance Interiors, helped make our dream possible. She transformed our home beyond what we could have imagined and tied the design, decor and furnishings together to suit our family’s needs and style.
The games room is our favorite room to enjoy with the family. We love to play games, read books and watch our children learn and grow. Bre has created a bespoke dollhouse that serves as a library and office for the children. It is the centerpiece of the playroom. We also have “atlas” wallpaper on one side which is a fun and unique feature of the space that also adds a pop of color. It’s just a super playful yet warm room that we have lots of great memories in.
As parents, we need a place to relax and enjoy each other’s company that’s both stylish and practical, which is why we love our living room. We have big, beautiful, dark green velvet chairs that go so well with my dad’s painting above the fireplace. Everything in the room is elevated – from the single light fixture to the fireplace to the wooden design on the wall. Best of all is that the room opens to the side of our yard where we have lots of greenery and ficus trees. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a long day.
One of the best parts of working with Bre was getting into the finished house after completing it with all the details. She had candles lit – and everything was so perfectly set up – we’ll never forget that walk. We couldn’t believe this was our home – and where we would be living. We’ve often set it up the way it did on day one and always get tons of compliments from our guests. With the help of our designer, our home truly feels like an extension of our family. We are excited to grow and continue to create memories in this space for years to come.”
In this ongoing feature, we ask homeowners what they love most about their home. If you would like to share your story, please send a photo of the room/item you like (preferably with you in the photo as well) and 400-450 words describing the space and why you love it [email protected].
