Looking to update your iPhone wallpaper? Here’s how to change your lock screen, home screen, or both pictures in just a few steps.
Changing your phone’s wallpaper is one of the easiest ways to customize the look of your phone without spending money on extra accessories like phone cases or grips. It’s also a fun way to display photos of your family, friends, pets, vacation photos, or just anything you want to see every time you pick up your device.
Apple lets iPhone users set their home screen and lock screen individually, so you can choose two different photos to set as wallpaper, images that go together well, or just use the same one. picture for both. Most iPhones also support live wallpapers at this point, meaning you can even set one that moves and comes to life when you long-press the screen.

- Tap Choose New Wallpaper
- Choose a folder
- Select a picture
- Tap Set
- Tap Set home screen, Set lock screen, or Set both.
How to change your iPhone wallpaper
Open your phone settings
You can also change your wallpaper directly from your Photos. To learn how to do this, scroll down to the Troubleshooting section of this guide.

Tap Choose New Wallpaper
You can also tap any of your existing wallpapers to move or resize them at this point.
Select a folder
You can choose between Apple’s dynamic, still, and live image collections, or choose one of your own folders to use an image from your photos.
Tap the image you want to set as wallpaper
We used one of Apple’s still images for this example, but you can also choose one from your photos.
Move or resize the image and click Set
You can move the image by dragging it or scale it by pinching it in or out with two fingers.
Decide where you want to place the wallpaper
You can choose to set it as the lock screen, set it as the home screen, or use the same image for both.
You can also change your iPhone wallpaper directly from your photos.
To do this, open the Photos app, tap the image you want to set as your new wallpaper, tap the arrow in the lower left corner, and tap Use as Wallpaper. Then just follow steps 6 and 7 above to adjust and set your new wallpaper.
If you want your iPhone wallpaper to move, you can do so using one of Apple’s Live Wallpapers or one of your own Live Photos.
This option is supported on all Apple phones after iPhone 6s, except iPhone XR and iPhone SE (1st and 2nd generation).
