Groundbreaking 2021 Brand Impact Awards Winners
The nascent impact of brands was judged again this year at the 2021 Brand Impact Awards – here are a few winners who questioned all aspects of the criteria
The winners of the 2021 Brand Impact Awards – an international awards program that celebrates creative excellence and consistency in brand design – were revealed in a winners showcase. The awards are presented by Creative Bloq, in association with Wallpaper *, and as usual, the bar has been set high by the demanding jury, which includes Wallpaper * editor-in-chief Sarah Douglas.
During more than 30 hours of video debate, the jury rose to the challenge of reducing a record of 230 applications to a shortlist of 39 projects, from 26 different agencies. A total of ten Gold Awards, 14 Silver Awards and 20 Bronze Awards were awarded, as well as the Social Impact Award and the Best of Show.

Best Performing List – Afghanistan’s First Female Orchestra by Williams Murray Hamm
Supporting an already laudable cause to which the escalating situation in Afghanistan has given new importance, this beautiful woven rug by Williams Murray Hamm has sparked admiration and debate. A charity founded on the belief that music has the power to transform lives, St John’s Orchestra (OSJ) has raised funds to bring Afghanistan’s first all-female orchestra to Oxford, UK, in order to support their musical education. Williams Murray Hamm designed a traditional hand-woven rug incorporating the war apparatus to represent the orchestra’s incredible journey. A hand-woven woolen rug is an important symbol of Afghan culture, often used as a stage.
Social impact winner – Love Welcomes by Saboteur
From supporting refugees to raising mental health awareness to the future of sustainable packaging, Love Welcomes has demonstrated various ways that good design can make a difference. A social enterprise that “helps refugee women rebuild their lives,” Love Welcomes recovers life jackets and blankets worn by refugees when they wash up on European shores and turns them into beautiful products. Founded in 2017, Love Welcomes has grown rapidly, notably following a high-profile collaboration with Banksy. But this rapid expansion led to a somewhat confusing brand expression that needed attention, duly delivered by Saboteur.
Silver – Pencil box by Studio Sutherl & – Craft-In-Branding: Illustration
Created as a promotional tool to show off Boss Print and Boss Box’s skills in box making, printing and gilding, these limited edition pencil boxes are both useful, fun and desirable. A series of four distinctive characters – Bubo the owl; Ningyo, a fish-like creature; Calaca, a Mayan skeleton; and Helios, the sunflower – were imagined using basic pencil shapes (such as shavings, circles, and dots) as building blocks. The boxes were finished to a high specification with a combination of printing sheets and four contrasting Fedrigoni papers, adding a luxurious mid-century feel to the range.
Silver – FRAHM by Supple Studio – Fashion
FRAHM defies the conventions of mass clothing and fast fashion by operating as an online-only business with a pre-order model. The company also reduces its waste while minimizing its impact on the planet. Macrophotography of beetles native to the UK printed in large scale on boxes and bags symbolizes FRAHM’s all-weather, technical clothing. In collaboration with the mental health charity Mind, every purchase supports men’s mental health. To honor this collaboration, Supple Studio used smart writing on their bespoke packaging tape.
Bronze – The Royal Mail Sherlock Holmes by NB Studio – Craft-In-Branding: Illustration
Royal Mail asked NB Studio to create a set of four stamps to capture the eerie and mysterious feel of four of Conan Doyle’s most beloved stories about Sherlock Holmes. Coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the BBC’s adaptation of the series, illustrator Karolis Strautniekas selected important clues from the stories using strategically placed flight axes, to stay true to the Victorian series – with a modern twist.
Bronze – Redbreast Irish Whiskey Bird Feeder by Nude Brand Creation – Wines, beers and spirits
Featuring an intricate copper casing with simple yet ingenious dual use, this limited edition 12 Year Old Redbreast Irish Whiskey bottle can be filled with bird food and hung in the garden. Launched in partnership with the Birdlife International association, each of the 2,000 bottles sold raises € 15 to conserve and restore bird habitats.
Bronze – ZIJI by andstudio – Technology and Telecoms
Ziji phone cases are designed to empower creative people to express themselves. Andstudio’s mandate was to create a user-friendly brand expression that could accommodate a wide range of ideas and sources of inspiration. Based on a thought bubble, the character of Ziji acts as a warm and supportive assistant to guide the creators from their initial idea to adding the finishing touches to their new phone case.
