The tradition of celebrating Bakrid concerns the story mentioned in the Qur’an about Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son by order of God. He interpreted this as a message from God and decided to sacrifice his son Ishmael at his command. Ismael also agreed to be killed to fulfill God’s wish. However, the God did not let Ishmael die and replaced him with an animal.
