BROCKTON – Alycia Montrond-Bullock sat on the couch at her Brockton home, scrolling aimlessly through Instagram until she saw the opportunity to design a menu and private invitation for Moneybagg rappers Yo and Yo Gotti for their celebration of the BET Award afterparty.
“Designing for celebrities was such a fun opportunity for me. I was so surprised, and I had no idea it was for the BET Awards. It made me want to deliver my best work for clients because of the size of their rig, ”says Montrond-Bullock, 20.
Event Designer, It’s a Sweet Life by Kim, a Los Angeles-based company posted on popular social media site Instagram, looking for a Graphic Designer.
Montrond-Bullock answered the mail, and the two numbers exchanged. To her surprise, the work was for the 2021 BET Awards dinner and afterparty on June 27.
“We discussed whatever the client wanted. Then, within hours, I created two menus of different versions, a private invite, helped collaborate on the Instagram post that the two celebrities posted and j I created a logo and title for the photo booth they used, “says Montrond-Bullock.
Montrond-Bullock never thought she would be tasked with working for two influential rappers in the industry.
The biggest customer she’s had so far was a logo created for a salon and boutique in Brockton called Mir and Champs Boutique at 1 Torrey St.
The sign has a teal blue background with hair tools and a tangled Air Jordan sneaker to create a unique design.
Montrond-Bullock launched graphic design company, Aly Designs, in 2020 and specializes in colorful digital designs for logos, business cards, flyers and menus.
His business was started at the start of the pandemic to release some stress. The pandemic was emotionally draining for so many, and finding a new hobby was life-changing, Montrond-Bullock said.
“I used the time to create something awesome and channel my more creative side. Initially, I was just making collages for my friends and family. I learned on my own how to create logos, flyers. , websites, menus, stickers and business cards, ”says Bullock.
After buying a new iPad with a sketching pencil, Montrond-Bullock sat behind the computer and learned different techniques. She watched several videos on the art of graphic design to improve her fledgling business.
“It started with making my wallpaper, and people liked them a lot, and I continued with that,” Montrond-Bullock said.
Montrond-Bullock graduated in Criminal Justice from Lasell University in Newton and aspires to attend law school to become a defense lawyer or practice civil law.
Graphic design was never anything on his radar, but became his hobby and business during his forties.

“Being successful is not something that happens overnight. You have to keep trying and stay consistent. The way I started, I never imagined doing half of the things I do now, but that only happened because I kept teaching myself and reaching out to people who needed design work and to stay consistent and never give up or get discouraged, ”Montrond said. -Bullock.
When business was slow, Montrond-Bullock continued to design even though she had no clients or inquiries about her designs.
Designing for a famous client put into perspective for Montrond-Bullock that the sky is the limit, and you can achieve anything you want as long as you put the work into it.
Montrond-Bullock wants his business to grow to help more prestigious clients and learn different ways to improve his designs. Graphic design gave Montrond-Bullock an outlet to tap into a more creative and outgoing side of herself, she said.
“We all have a purpose in life, and sometimes it isn’t given to you right away. You have to seek it out. Graphic design isn’t something I ever intended to do, but you have to. step out of your comfort zone to find what excites you. ” said Montrond-Bullock.
